Secure Your Property with Craftsmanship That Lasts

Quality materials, corrosion-resistant fixings, and site-adapted footings ensure our work can endure anything that Tassie throws at it.

High-Grade Materials

We don't cut costs by using lower-grade materials.

  • H4 Treated Timber: All in-ground posts and retaining timbers are treated to H4 structural grade to protect against rot, fungal decay, and subterranean termites common in local Tasmanian soils.

  • True-to-Spec Steel & Sleepers: From genuine Colorbond® panels rated for high UV exposure to concrete sleeper retaining walls, we only source products from reputable Australian manufacturers with proven track records.

Hot-Dip Galvanised & Corrosion-Resistant Fixings

Fasteners are the most critical—and often overlooked—part of a fence build. A timber fence might last 20 years, but if cheap untreated fixings are used, the frame will fail long before the wood does.

  • Hot-Dip Galvanised Screws & Nails: We use heavy-duty galvanised fixings across all external timber builds. Galvanising coats the steel in a thick zinc layer that prevents rust and corrosion caused by persistent Tasmanian winter rain and dampness.

  • No Leaching Reaction: Standard fixings chemically react with the natural tannins in timber (especially native hardwoods), causing black rust stains and early timber breakdown. Heavy galvanised fixings prevent this bleed.

  • Stainless Steel Options: Crucial for exposed coastal microclimates—from Lauderdale and Seven Mile Beach to Taroona, Kingston Beach, and the Channel—where airborne salt spray can degrade standard hardware.

Ground Conditions & Soil Adaptation

A fence or retaining wall is only as solid as the ground supporting its footings. Soil conditions vary wildly across Southeast Tasmania, and we adapt our installation methods to your specific terrain:

  • Clay Soils (e.g., Glenorchy, Sorell, Brighton & Cambridge): Heavy reactive clay expands when wet and shrinks when dry, creating severe ground movement. We dig deeper, wider footings to anchor well below the active movement zone and use high-strength concrete to ensure post stability.

  • Sandy Ground (e.g., Seven Mile Beach, Lauderdale & South Arm): Loose coastal sand collapses easily during digging and offers zero natural lateral support. We use specialized post-hole techniques, wider footings, and solid concrete pours to eliminate post-drift over time.

  • Rocky & Hard Ground (e.g., Mount Nelson, West Hobart, Lenah Valley & Taroona): Dense rocky areas require serious gear. We break through hard rock using heavy-duty jackhammers and rock drills to achieve proper, full-depth footings rather than cutting corners with shallow holes when hitting hard ground.

Built for Southeast Tasmanian Weather

Local conditions are uniquely tough on outdoor structures: Extreme gale-force winds off the Derwent, heavy winter rain, frost, and intense summer UV. Every project we do is constructed with your suburb's specific microclimate in mind:

  • Deeper Concrete Footings for High-Wind Corridors: Exposed hilltops and coastal ridges in Howrah, Tranmere, Mount Nelson, and Blackmans Bay can endure enormous lateral wind loads. We dig footings deeper and use high-strength concrete mixes to ensure posts remain plumb and steady during severe gales.

  • Timber Allowance for Expansion & Shrinkage: High-moisture winters and dry summer heat cause timber to naturally expand and contract. We frame and fix with precise tolerances so palings don't warp, buckle, or pop off rails as the seasons shift.

  • Proper Ground Clearance: Timber palings are set with exact ground clearance to eliminate direct soil contact, preventing moisture wicking and premature ground-level rot.
